ACLU OF ALABAMA
brief
To commemorate the ACLU of Alabama’s 60th Anniversary, the organization sought a video that would capture its present-day identity and impact. The goal was to tell a compelling story that reflected the issues they champion, the communities they serve, their approach to advocacy and legislation, and their foundational values. This visual narrative needed to unfold over a series of events taking place across several months, with the final shoot occurring just one day before the video’s premiere at their Anniversary Gala. In addition to the main video, the ACLU commissioned three short vignettes to honor the legacy of three remarkable women whose contributions shaped the organization’s work and mission.
solution
We worked closely with the ACLU of Alabama’s Marketing Director, who had a strong vision for the look, tone, and emotional impact of the project. Starting with the script, we mapped out a multi-month production schedule to capture key events that would help bring their story to life. With the organization’s decentralized team structure in mind, we focused on illustrating how each unit operates independently while contributing to a larger, unified mission.
In parallel, we scheduled interviews with the honorees and began researching archival footage and imagery to ground their stories in historical context. Across four months, we captured a dynamic range of footage, made iterative revisions, and filled narrative gaps as needed. On the final day of production—just 24 hours before the gala—we completed the last shoot, delivered the first edit that night, and made final adjustments by morning. All four videos were delivered on time for the event, where they were met with enthusiastic applause and heartfelt responses. We stayed to document the evening and celebrate the impact of the work. Mission accomplished.
