The founder of Better Than Average Tutoring had two needs. One was creating a quick turnaround commercial for his business which would be aired on mainstream television media, and the second was a long-form narrative that tells his amazing story of starting a business at the age of 16. The challenge was the quick turnaround for the media spot and for the longer narrative, there were some resource and budget limitations.
We immediately began planning wrong what scenes it took to create the 30-second commercial. To maximize time and resources, we scheduled time within the production dates to capture additional footage that would help with creating the longer narrative. With precise planning, we were able to capture our primary scenes on the first production day. Since time was of the essence, we quickly edited the 30-sec spot and delivered by the commercial deadline.
After the commercial edit, we scheduled two additional production days to capture bonus interviews and b-roll (bonus video) for the narrative story. To minimize costs, we decided to use the client’s voiceover to narrate his story and scenes. To navigate the story between scenes, we used a combination of b-roll and personal photos. Finally, the client envisioned the opening of the narrative to begin like the POWER television series. With a sequence of drone shots and choreographed actions, we had our opening sequence. The client was thrilled to see his vision come to life! One project created two products serving two different needs.
